Mountain Bike Trips
West-Rim Trail
Beautiful riding on a sage-covered plateau high above the Rio Grande. This is a beautiful ride that starts at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and travels south along the rim on fairly level double and singletrack trails. The riding is never that hard, and the miles seem to fly by. The views are spectacular, with several spots to stop to look at the lovely Rio Grande, a dizzy thousand feet below you.
Start from the rest area on U.S. 64 just west of the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. The trail ends at a parking spot one-half mile north of N.M. 567.
Wild & Scenic Rivers
This trip provides spectacular views of the Upper Rio Grande Gorge and The confluence of the famous Red River and the Rio Grande.
National Wild and Scenic Rivers are America's free-flowing treasures. Protected under legislation in 1968, these streams let you enjoy a ride through class 4 and 5 rapids, a peaceful float casting for trout, or a brisk stroll along the bank on a mountain bike.
Maps & Trails
Unless posted otherwise, all BLM trails are open to biking as well as hiking. The mountain biking opportunities in northern New Mexico are outstanding in terms of scenic value and variety of riding experience. BLM lands offer challenge and reward for the beginner and expert alike.
